PROFILE

M.S. Girls’ College, Rangia is the only institution for the girls for higher education in the entire North Kamrup area, established in August 1984. The College has been torch bearer in the field of higher education for the girls in the vast and extensive area inhabited predominantly by socially and economically backward segments of the population. The institution was intiated by some notable enthusiastic educationists and the public in Rangia Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Raniga. Thereafter, it was shifted to its allotted Govt. land in Pub-Kachari Mahal and Pub-Barigog Mauza, Rangia. At the initial stage, the renamed in a public meeting in 1994 as Manabendra Sarma Girls’ College to memorise the veteran social-worker and politician of Rania Late Maabendra Sarma.

At present, the college has been listed as qualified for provincialisation under The Assam Venture Educational Institutions (Provincialisation of Services) Act, 2011 w.e.f. 1st Hanuary, 2013. In this year, the college has been registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 and also submitted its proposal for the approval under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act to eligibale to receive grants from the UGC.

Since its inception, the college has been playing a pioneer role in all spheres of socio-academic activities. Let us act for all round development of the institution for the greater interest of the womankind as well as the society.

To give the educational facilities to the young generation particularly belonging to the socially and economically backward communities of the entire North Kamrup area.

To impart education in arts faculties to the students with the purpose of marking them capable and resourceful citizens.

To provide exclusive facilities to the students for their Physical, Intellectual and Cultural Development.

To cerate a healthy academic atmosphere in the locality.

To produce quality of Girls’ students equipped with moral, spiritual, aesthetic values to face the challenges of life.

To create a pragmatic approach in the minds of the students on the socio-economic realities of life.

To take such other academic programmes as may be deemed necessary from time to time.

To ensure active and equal participation of women in the process of decision making in all spheres of life.

To inculcate social awareness and responsibilities in women enabling them to make a meaningful contribution to the society and nation.

CURRICULUM :

The College offers Courses of students upto B.A. with English, Assamese, Bodo, Nepali, Economics, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Education, Arabic, Elective (Assamese, Bodo) Alternative English with Major in Assamese, Political Science, Economics, Education, Arabic and Bodo.

The syllabus and curriculum are subject to changes effected by G.U. and AHSEC from time to time.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE :

1.Prospectus and Application Forms are available in the College Office on payment Rs. 100/- (Rupees and hundred) only.

2. Admission into the college is governed by the college admission rules. The Principal’s decision regarding admission in final.

3. The following documents must be produced at the time of admission:

(a) Original Marksheet, Certificate of the last qualifying examination.

(b) HSLC Admit Card and Pass Certificate from the head of the Institute last attended.

(c) Gap Certificate whenever necessary will have to be produced. It has to be issued by a gazzatted officer/ heard of the institution (Govt. recognized institute) last attened. Candidates having more than three years study gap will not be eligible for admission.

(d) Caste Certificate wherever necessary.

(e) Two copies of passport sized photograph.

4. All candidates must submit attested copies of (a) and (b) above at the time of admission. Studetns belonging to SC, ST(P), ST(H), OBC or MOBC categories must also submit an attested copy of (d) in addition to (a) and (b). Announcement regarding the commencement of regular classes will be made on the date of admission itself.

5. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of G.U.

EXAMINATION RULES:

(i) Students have to attend the classes regularly for acquiring eligibility for appearing in the respective examinations. Credit point/ mark will be offered on attendance as per GU Semester system.

(ii) All students must appear in all the examination conducted by the college during academic year. Pass marks for all the college examinations is as laid down by AHSEC / GU. A student must pass all subjects in the Test / Sessional Examination held in the college. Sick bed will be provided to the sick students during all college examinations.

(iii) Students must satisfy the Principal in all respect of regularity in class attendance and study, discipline behaviour and good conduct.

(iv) The following examinations will be conducted by the College during an academic year



CLASS EXAMINATION
(a) H.S. 1st year Annual Examination
(b) H.S. 2nd Year Test Examination
(c) TDC 1st and 2nd Semester One/ Two Sessional Examination(s) per semester as per G.U. norms.
(d) TDC 3rd and 4th Semester One/ Two Sessional Examination(s) per semester as per G.U. norms
(e) TDC 5th and 6th Semester One/ Two Sessional Examination(s) per semester as per G.U. norms



GENERAL RULES FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF DISCIPLINE:



All students shall be compulsory required to put on the College Uniform during College hours as well as during differenct College functions.

The unions shall be subject to such guidance and control as the college administration may prescribe from time to time.

Only such Unions and Associations as have been recognized by the principal shall have the facilities in the College Premises.

All notices desired to be pasted on circulated by the students anywhere in the Collage shall require the approval of the Principal.

All power for maintaining discipline is vested with the Principal and his / her decision shall be final in all such matters.

Use of Cell Phone is strictly prohibited in classroom/ College campus.
